March 9-13

This Wednesday March 11 we are asking grade 4 students to wear denim and plaid.  We are going to go outside and play some old fashioned games just like Fern would do on the farm.  If you'd like to dress in full farm theme complete with boots and hats and coveralls go right ahead.

Report Cards come home Tuesday March 17.
Oh ya...wear GREEN that day.
There will be an assembly at 12:30.

Field Trip
We are going swimming next Thursday March 19 from 2-3.  So far I have 2 parents signed up to drive, thanks to the Dass Family and the Coathupe Family.  We still need drivers and supervisors for 12 children.  Please send in the form ASAP if you can help us out - thank you.

Celebration of Learning
Thursday March 19 6:00-7:30 is our Celebration of Learning. This will be a drop in and no sign up is required.  Please come with your child to participate in a centered approach evening with your grade 4 student as the leader.  Younger siblings are welcome but please be sure you are able to enjoy this evening with your Grade 4 child.

Hot Lunch forms came home today.  Please return by these by Friday.  Hot Lunch Date is March 25 for grades 4/5.

One School One Book
I would love to hear about your family's experiences with Charlotte's Web.  I hope the reading schedule is easy to follow and is manageable.

This week's homework:  Jot down really awesome words that you come across.  Last week we found...bloodthirsty, salutations, clever, dreadful. We are always looking to expand our vocabulary.

One School One Book

Well, today is the day!!  Our book was revealed this morning at 9:00 at a wonderful assembly.  Staff is thrilled to announce Charlotte's Web by E.B. White as our project.  Each family received a book today sent home with the oldest child.  Inside the book is an orange sheet with information on the project as well as the reading schedule.

This project is for the entire school community.  Parents are included in this too.  Your child may be a bit insistent that you stop doing the dishes, turn off the ipad, and sit down with them.  We really hope that you can enjoy the gift of reading together.

Check out the link for information and audio reading of the chapters.

Students, your homework is to read with your family members.  On a sticky note write down a tasty tidbit (great writing) and the page number it is found on.  Bring in the sticky note for a bonus stick.

Swimming on March 19 - note sent home today.  We will be needing drivers - please and thank you.

Week of February 9-13

It is Random Acts of Kindness Week!

The grade 4 students have made cards and tissue paper corsages for all the support staff at Mike Mountain Horse School.  We are delivering them throughout the week with words of thanks.

Reading:  Has your child been reading everyday for 20 minutes?  Be sure to record it on their progress chart.  Abel is in the lead with 5 charts completed!!  Keep up the great work everyone.

Language Arts:  We are writing persuasive letters to city hall this week.  Last week on our field trip to Galt Museum we found out that Lethbridge has its own flag.  We think Lethbridge classrooms should have this flag in them so we are writing to our mayor.

Mathematics:  We are testing on Multiplication and Division this week.  We will be moving on to fractions and decimals (tenths and hundredths) as well before the break.

Social Studies:  Great job on National Park Brochures.  We are finishing up our class projects on the regions of Alberta.  After the break students will be presenting on their region.

Thursday:  8:30 Spirit Assembly.  Wear Red on Thursday everyone!!

Secret Valentines are due Thursday as well.  Remember to include a card with compliments written in it.  Thank you for taking your time to do a nice card with some 'wow' factor to it.  Also, purchase or make a small gift for your valentine (no more than $5.00).  These are due Thursday so I can make sure no feelings are hurt on party day.  Thank you for helping your child participate in this fun event.
